With these powerful words, Epee Homb Elvis Parker, Chief Executive Officer of OCEAN Petroleum, addressed the sponsorship ceremony for the 28th and 29th MBA cohorts of ESSEC Douala Business School.

Speaking to MBA students, future executives, and emerging leaders, the discussion explored several fundamental questions:

How does leadership evolve through experience and time ?
What do professional setbacks truly teach us ?
What role do mentors play in shaping a successful career ?
And above all, what kind of leadership should Africa build for the future ?

Drawing on his professional journey and extensive field experience, Elvis Homb shared a vision of leadership that is both deeply human and highly situational.
According to him, effective leaders must adapt to changing environments, responsibilities, and the people they lead. Leadership is never one-size-fits-all: leading an entire organization requires a different approach from managing an operational team. Yet one principle remains constant across every context—the ability to inspire others.

"Work hard."
